2nd Hurricane in 2 weeks

Not so lucky this time

Unfortunately we got hit with our second hurricane within 2 weeks! And we were not so lucky this time.

The first hurricane, Helene, was 100 miles off the coast of my hometown, St Petersburg Florida and did massive damage to our city. Most of the damage was due to flooding.

The current hurricane is Milton, and old Milton was just about a direct hit on St Petersburg. Luckily for St Pete and the Tampa Bay Area, there wasn’t massive flooding. It was actually what’s called negative surge meaning the hurricane sucked the water out of the bay and surrounding areas. But the wind was devastating and did tremendous amounts of damage.

My house…..well, we didn’t get as lucky as the first hurricane because this was more of a direct hit But here’s the okay news I guess. My wife and I are vacation in Peru so we were safe from Milton. But it was very scary coordinating hurricane proofing our home from Peru!

We use a company called “Calling all Cats and Dogs” when we go on vacation and they come and feed, water, clean up and play with our cat when we are gone. But during the day of the hurricane they couldn’t come to our house. It was unsafe. So our neighbor stepped up and took our little kitty to their house during the storm. Problem 1 solved.

Next….we needed to put up our hurricane shutters. Which are basically plywood with holes drilled in it that sits over screws coming out of our windows. But wouldn’t you know it…the people who sold us the house didn’t fit the holes properly and of course I never checked the shutters. Thats on me. So we called our contractor to come out and retro fit every board to cover our windows. He charged us $60 a window or a total of $780. Might seem like a lot to you….but when you have a hurricane barreling down on you and you’re in Peru…you pay just about anything. lol. We paid the contractor with Zelle and he sent a video of the job completed. Problem 2 solved.

Now the important part… What happened to the house!!??? The only major damage was my other neighbors tree fell on our fence and broke 2 or 3 fence panels and posts. The house is okay and we never lost power. We lost internet for only a few hours. My neighbor that watched our cat is hooked up to our internet becuase his will be down for 2 weeks they are estimating!! I have fiber optic internet that is underground. Frontier is our provider. Problem 3 solved.

Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida and it is still real estate in paradise. So don’t believe the hype that everyone is moving out like they say on the news. If you are looking to move here, or you want to buy another property here. I have this video that will show you the steps I used to buy a hurricane resistant house. (I’ll also talk about hurricane proof homes) [Click to watch video]

Peru is great and I’m currently sitting in my hotel typing this because I coundn’t wait to tell you how we fared in hurricane Milton. I appetite all of you that reached out and asked about us. Thank you.

There will be a lot of cleanup going forward and my wife and I will be helping our neighbors, friends and city as much as we can when we get back. Say a little prayer for Florida becuase a lot of people didn’t fare as well as we did. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
