Six new Florida laws just went into effect, and every one of them is built to make life miserable for criminals. While other states keep opening the jail doors, Florida's slamming them shut. If you're a criminal living here, you might wanna start packing.

1. House Bill 429 makes it a whole lot easier to label someone a gang member. Getting spotted with known gang members used to count after four times. Now it's two. Admitting you're in a gang on social media now counts, and so does using gang code words and symbols online to push gang activity. Gang members can't hide behind a screen anymore.
2. House Bill 559 makes it a felony for adults to drag kids into animal cruelty or animal fighting. That's up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. It passed 114 to 0 in the House and 37 to 0 in the Senate. And the FDLE now posts everyone convicted of animal cruelty on a searchable public list, with their name, tattoos, and booking photo. So if somebody's hurting animals in your neighborhood, you'll be able to look them up.
3. House Bill 1525 makes indecent exposure aimed at a minor under 16 a felony. Before, it was a misdemeanor with a max of 60 days in jail. And the kid doesn't have to see it or even know it's happening. Think about a creep parked outside a school or a playground. Not one lawmaker in Tallahassee voted no.
4. House Bill 1293 goes after fake renters lying their way into Florida homes with fake IDs, stolen identities, and phony bank statements and pay stubs. That's now a felony called fraudulent entry, and once the landlord sends notice, they've got 7 days to get out. I'm so happy about this one as a landlord. One bad tenant can wipe out a landlord who’s counting on that rent to pay the mortgage.
5. House Bill 397 cracks down on violent criminals who go after their victims while they're out of jail waiting for trial. When someone gets arrested for a violent crime like battery, stalking, or kidnapping, a judge can let them out before trial, usually with a no-contact order to stay away from the victim. Before, that order was just a piece of paper. Now breaking it is a brand new crime. Cops can arrest them on the spot without a warrant, and they stay locked up until they see a judge. No bonding right back out. So if an abusive ex shows up at her door, he's going right back to jail.
But the last law goes after Florida's most dangerous repeat criminals. Florida has over 20,000 career offenders, and about 1,200 of them have disappeared. The state doesn't even know where they're sleeping tonight. 👇🏼

👉🏼 6. Senate Bill 1332 now treats Florida's career offenders, people convicted of violent felonies over and over again, a lot like sex offenders. When they get out of prison or move, they've got 48 hours to register in person with the sheriff, and if they stay anywhere for just 3 days, they have to report that address. And here's the big one. Their driver's license now has to have 775.261 printed right on the front, so the moment a cop looks at it, he knows exactly who he's dealing with. That's huge! And anybody who helps them hide now faces a felony too.

This is why Florida's the best state in the country. In too many other states, judges and district attorneys let criminals walk right back out the door, and the people who live there pay the price. In Florida, DeSantis and the boys are locking criminals up and protecting the people who actually live here. I'm happy every single one of these laws passed. If you want to live somewhere that backs law enforcement and puts victims ahead of criminals, you're already in the right place.
