DeSantis is furious, and this time he's not staying quiet about it. Byron Donalds just flip flopped on property taxes for the second time, and DeSantis finally called him out on X.

Back in September 2025, Byron was dead set against eliminating property taxes on homestead homes. He said we'd have to double the sales tax to 12% to make it work, and that would kill tourism. DeSantis fired right back on X, calling it a "bogus report" and saying he'd veto any sales tax hike.
So Byron did what he always does when he wants to know what voters actually think. He ran a poll instead of talking to them. Turns out most Florida voters want property tax relief, so on June 4th, 2026, Byron posted on X that "property tax on a paid-off home is the government making you rent your own land" and that he's with the Governor. Flip flop number one, right after he realized he couldn't get elected without it.
Then Amendment 3 landed on the ballot, the biggest property tax cut in Florida history. And once Byron thought he was ahead in the polls, his true colors came right back out. In July 2026, Florida Politics reported he's now "worried about fiscally constrained counties being harmed" by the amendment. That's flip flop number two, and it's a straight up Democrat talking point.
DeSantis couldn't take it anymore and responded on X, saying “I worry about taxpayers who local governments have overtaxed.” Property tax revenue has nearly doubled for local governments this decade, the state's cut its own budget 4 years straight, and local governments can do the same. Floridians should not be taxed out of their homes.
And it's not just the property tax flip flopping. Byron said on X he's never traded stocks in Congress and everyone should be held to that standard. Except Grok, X's own AI, confirmed he's made 381 stock trades worth over $11 million since 2021. A watchdog group also filed an ethics complaint over 100 undisclosed trades worth up to $1.6 million. On top of that, he's missed 163 votes in Congress, almost 3 times the average House member's miss rate.

Meanwhile, Florida Democrats are doing something even wilder. Every election they scream about affordability. Then Republicans hand them an actual, real property tax cut, and the Florida Democratic Party comes out against it, calling Amendment 3 a scam. Because a tax cut doesn't grow government or create new dependency. It just puts money back in your pocket, and that's exactly why they hate it.
Here's why this matters. Property taxes are set to jump another 40% by 2031 if Amendment 3 doesn't pass, and none of the cities fighting it are promising to cut spending. DeSantis's own watchdog group, the Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight, already found $3.6 billion in wasteful spending after auditing just 20 municipalities, and cities are using your own property tax dollars, through dues paid to groups like the Florida League of Cities, to run campaigns telling you to vote against your own tax cut.
DeSantis says he's voting yes on Amendment 3. But he's not leading the charge himself, since it's not his bill anymore. What this fight actually needs is somebody who's run a political committee before, somebody who knows how to raise real money and put it into social media and TV campaigns educating voters on why voting YES on Amendment 3 means saving our homes, cutting our taxes, and putting money back where it belongs. In our pockets.
