Local politicians are counting on you to approve hidden Florida property tax hikes this November without ever realizing it. They've had record money pouring in for years, and instead of fixing what's broken, they blew it. Now they're sending you the bill.

Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins wants a $450 million bond for fire stations and a new police headquarters, where she says it rains in the middle of the desks. A bond is a loan you pay back through your property taxes, plus interest, for up to 30 years. The ballot title says it won't increase the millage rate, your property tax rate. That's a trick. You're still paying it back with your property taxes.
CFO Blaise Ingoglia's FAFO team found Miami's budget jumped 44% to $1.17 billion since 2019. And of the $400 million Miami Forever Bond voters approved in 2017, only $112 million had been spent as of January. They haven't even spent the last loan, and they want another one.
Palm Beach County got flagged for more than $1.2 billion in wasteful spending since 2020. Its budget grew 65%. Now it wants two bonds worth $455 million for parks and a new library three times bigger. The county says its parks need $1.2 billion in repairs and upgrades, almost the exact amount FAFO says it overspent. They blew enough of your money to cover the whole parks wish list, and now they want you to pay for it again.
School districts in 28 counties want you to keep paying an extra property tax, and the ballot doesn't ask if you want a tax. It asks if you want to continue it. Orange County lost more than 6,600 students last year and shut seven schools. Statewide, district students and teachers are down, but administrators are up 9.6%.
But the biggest bill on the list is $600 million. And it's right here in my own backyard. 👇🏼

👉🏼 It's St. Petersburg, my city, dammit! The budget is up 48%. The city cut Tropicana Field's insurance to save $275,000, then Hurricane Milton ripped the roof off and the repair has cost taxpayers over $30 million so far. Nobody lost their job over it. Now Mayor Ken Welch wants a $600 million sewer bond, and the ballot lets the city raise your property taxes as much as it needs to pay it back. No limit.
And a city official admitted these projects are getting done whether the bond passes or not. You're already paying for them on your utility bill. You'd be paying for the same pipes twice.
The one thing that can stop wasteful spending and these bloated local government budgets is Amendment 3. Without it, Florida property taxes are on pace to jump 40% by 2031. Amendment 3 wipes out the non-school part of the bill for about 60% of homestead homeowners. But bond payments still come out of your property taxes no matter what, so whatever bonds pass this November, you're paying for them for decades!

A bond isn't free money. It's a loan, and you're the one making the property tax payments for the next 20 or 30 years. So before you vote yes on any tax on your ballot, ask yourself one question. Where'd all your money go? Did they fix your roads, fix homelessness, stop crime, or make your life better in any way? If the answer's no, they don't get more money. Vote no on the bonds, vote yes on Amendment 3, and put your money back where it belongs, in your pocket.
