Florida Goes After Shady HOA's

Finally!!

Ever feel like your HOA runs the whole show, and you’re paying for your own prison cell in the neighborhood? In Florida, that’s not just a feeling. We’ve got 49,000 HOAs here, and some of them are acting like little dictatorships.

You’ve got people getting fined for having a garden gnome on their front lawn. One guy added a red tile to his driveway and got slapped with a $1,000 fine. There’s HOAs threatening to take homes over trash cans and yard decorations. I’m really pretty shocked at how out of control it is.

But now there’s a bill that could change all of that. House Bill 983 would give homeowners the power to vote out board members, require HOAs to post meeting agendas online, and here’s the big one… let local police audit them for fraud!

There’s even a case in Miami where HOA board members stole over $6 million by billing fake companies and jacking up maintenance fees. A woman in Tarpon Springs stole $754,000 from 60 HOAs and spent it on Bucs tickets and groceries. (And probably didn’t even invite any of the homeowners she stole from to the game ☹️) And in Seminole County, another manager pocketed $437,000. These aren’t little mistakes. This is straight up theft, and it’s happening across the state.

This bill would shut down shady nominating committees, make elections fair, and stop HOAs from blocking homeowners from running for the board. But we’ve got to keep an eye out. Politicians love to say they support something, then quietly gut it behind the scenes. Just like whats happening with the chemtrails bill.

We need to keep this one strong. No watering it down. It’s time to stop the scams and give homeowners real control.

Are there shady things going on in your HOA? Let me know. My biggest question is why do we need all these HOAs? Aren’t city ordinances good enough to keep the grass cut and cars off the lawn? Or am I being to naive? 🤷🏻‍♂️
