A Florida mayor is fighting hard to kill your property tax cut, then she turned around and spent $80 million of property tax money. And she's not alone. Mayors, commissioners, and even sheriffs across Florida are running the same play with your money. And it's gotta stop.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor is coming out hard against Amendment 3. Her first budget in 2019 came in at $1.04 billion. Her eighth and final budget comes in at $2.04 billion. That's a 96% increase while Tampa's population grew about 7%. Your paycheck didn't double. But the city's budget sure did. And while she's warning Tampa can't survive a property tax cut, she pushed hard to spend $80 million on a new stadium for the Rays, and said the city might pay it back through tax increment, which is basically property tax money.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis warned in June that the city might have to shut down its entire parks department. About two short weeks later, he voted yes on a $217 million new City Hall tower. The city's gonna pay $15.8 million a year for 30 years. That's about $475 million total. Over in Miami-Dade, commissioners cut parks and transit, then handed $5 million to the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. The man pushing it, Commission Chair Anthony Rodriguez, had a political committee that accepted 11 World Cup skybox seats worth $38,500 from that same Visitors Bureau.

CFO Blaise Ingoglia's FAFO team has already found over $3.7 billion in excessive, wasteful spending. Palm Beach County alone hit $443 million in one year. Jacksonville spent $75,000 on a hologram of the mayor and $7.5 million on a sidewalk one mile long. Must be one sweet sidewalk. Broward County spent $175,000 to create virtual art in the Metaverse. I wish I was making that up. And Palm Beach County's administrator makes $425,000 a year. The governor of Florida makes about $141,000.

👉🏼 Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony got $935 million this year and he's still fighting for $73 million more. His new training center was pitched at $34 million. It ended up costing $73.7 million. Inside, there's a $7.5 million wellness center with a sauna and a cold plunge tub, plus over $552,000 in branding, including giant pictures of himself on the walls.

That's why this vote matters. If Amendment 3 fails, property tax money collected by local governments in Florida is on pace to go from about $60 billion today to $84 billion by 2031. That's a 40% jump, and nobody has to vote on it. It needs 60% to pass, and DeSantis has already said flat out, if this doesn't pass in November, you're not getting another shot.
