Florida mayors who spend your tax money on DEI can now get fired, because DeSantis just made it illegal. But some of these shady politicians don't care. They're already scheming to keep the money flowing anyway.

DeSantis just signed Senate Bill 1134, and starting January 1st, no Florida city or county can spend a dime of your tax money on DEI. DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion. It's a racist policy that prioritizes hiring people based on their skin color and who they prefer to sleep with instead of hiring the person who's most qualified to do the job. It puts identity ahead of merit, and it discriminates against straight white and Asian men.
And look, I don't care if you're black, white, pink or green, or if you're straight, gay or anything in between. Everybody should be treated fairly and with respect, and the most qualified person for the job should get the job. DEI doesn't do that. If it's wrong when it happens to you, it's wrong when it happens to anybody. Discrimination is discrimination, no matter who it's aimed at. That's why DEI's gotta go.
The new law wipes out DEI offices, DEI officers, and every DEI program on the books, and cities can't hand the money to a nonprofit to do it for them. Here's what’s got local politicians sweating. Breaking this law is now official misconduct, so the governor can kick a mayor or commissioner out of office without pay. And any Florida resident who catches their city spending on DEI can take them to court. That means you.
You don't pass a law this tough unless something's seriously wrong. CFO Blaise Ingoglia's FAFO team went digging and found DEI just about everywhere. Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan's city handed out $1.9 million in property tax money to DEI-focused art groups. Gainesville paid a Director of Equity and Inclusion $189,000 a year. The governor of Florida only makes about $141,000. Broward County spent $890,000 on DEI training, including something called the Genderbread Person. I'm not making that up! And Alachua County paid Planned Parenthood $31,000 for a sex ed program aimed at kids as young as 13. All with your property tax money.
DeSantis isn't stopping at city hall. Parents and a pastor in Hillsborough County had to read passages from school library books out loud at board meetings just to get them pulled. They're so graphic I can't even play the whole clip on YouTube. New Education Commissioner Henry Mack just ordered every district to stop waiting for parents to complain and start auditing their own shelves, or risk losing state money. About 600 books were pulled from Florida schools last school year. Clay County alone pulled 261.
But some cities have no plans to stop. And one of them is pulling a sneaky trick right here in my own backyard. 👇🏼

👉🏼 It's St. Pete. Instead of shutting down its Office of Equity, the city just renamed it the Office of Community Impact, and the city's chief of staff says they feel protected. Same office, same money, new sign on the door. Miami Beach and Tallahassee voted to keep the Pride money flowing, and Leon County voted to spend $68,000 keeping a board running until the day before the law kicks in.
They're all running out the clock, betting the law doesn't survive November. And they've already got their guy. Democrat David Jolly, running for governor against Byron Donalds, told a crowd at Florida A&M he'd go around the law and give DEI programs a free pass. His words: "We're going to do that by executive action and make them sue us." This law only has teeth if the governor uses them. Jolly never will.
Florida was the first state to kick DEI out of its colleges back in 2023, and the rest of the country followed, all the way to the White House.

This is why voting matters. The politicians spending your money on this stuff didn't sneak into office. Somebody voted for them. So don't vote for the clowns who want to spend your money on their pet causes. This November, vote for Byron Donalds for governor, and vote yes on Amendment 3, the property tax cut on your ballot. It shrinks the giant pile of money these politicians have been blowing on social programs nobody voted for, and it makes them put what's left toward police, fire and roads first, like they should've been doing all along.
