In 2019, local governments across Florida collected $33 billion in property taxes. This year, they're collecting $62 billion. DeSantis gave them every benefit of the doubt. He took that 2019 number and grew it for every person who's moved here since, plus inflation. That's what it costs to give you the exact same services you got in 2019, and it comes out to $49 billion. They never had to vote to raise your taxes to get the rest. Your home's value went up, and your bill went right up with it.

So where's all that money going? CFO Blaise Ingoglia's FAFO team is digging through city and county budgets and finding waste everywhere. Palm Beach County wasted $1.2 billion since 2020. Orange County, $747 million. Jacksonville spent $7.5 million on a sidewalk one mile long, and $75,000 on a hologram of the mayor. A hologram. Who's voting for these people?

Then there's Broward County. Sheriff Gregory Tony's new training center was supposed to cost $34 million. It ended up at $73.7 million. A 2024 county audit found $7.4 million of that went to a wellness center tacked on with change orders, complete with a sauna and a cold plunge tub. How is that even legal?

Meanwhile, seniors who paid off their homes are stuck. Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson says Florida's Save Our Homes system has them trapped. A retired couple wants something smaller, and even the smaller house costs them more in property taxes than the one they're in. So they stay put and keep paying.

Amendment 3 is how you take it back. Your homestead exemption jumps from $50,000 to $150,000 on January 1st, 2027, then $250,000 in 2028. For about 60% of Florida homestead homeowners, that wipes out the non-school part of their property taxes completely. It needs 60% to pass.

And local politicians are pulling out the same scare tactic they ran in 1980 and again in 2008. The cops are still here. The firefighters are still here. Florida Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried says it's "giving huge tax breaks to billionaires and corporations." She's wrong. Corporations, rentals, second homes and Airbnbs don't get a homestead exemption. What they get is their yearly cap cut from 10% to 5%, which keeps your landlord from jacking up your rent to cover a massive property tax increase.

Even if it passes, local governments still collect $60.7 billion the first year. That's $10 billion more than they took in 4 years ago. They still get more money every year. They just get less of yours. And DeSantis was real honest about what happens if it fails.

The people spending your money are never gonna hand it back on their own. The only time Florida homeowners have ever gotten real relief is when they showed up and took it. If you already voted, your job's not done. Call your parents, your neighbors, and your buddies from work, and make sure they vote too. Vote yes on Amendment 3 and put your money back where it belongs, in your pocket.
