Miami just got busted hiding taxpayer money, and they kept it hidden until after the budget passed and it was too late to stop it. Reporters asked for it four days straight. The city sat on it. And guess who got screwed? You.

Miami commissioners passed a record $3.7 billion budget on September 24th, with last-minute changes made the day before that the public didn't get to see until after the vote. Coconut Grove Spotlight, a local news site that covers Miami City Hall, asked for the document again and again. The city never handed it over. And here's the crazy part. It's legal. Florida law lets a city change its budget at the final hearing "as it sees fit," and the final version doesn't have to go online until 30 days after they pass it.
Once it finally came out, one change jumped right off the page. Last year, 18 festivals were listed one by one, each with its own dollar amount. Anybody could look it up. The proposed budget actually cut festival money from about $3.43 million down to $1.99 million. Then the hidden change put it all right back, and this time not a single festival is named. The money's split between the five commission districts, and commissioners decide who gets it. No application. No formula. No oversight. And festivals aren't even the biggest pot. Another $28.3 million sits in a pandemic-era program called Miami for Everyone. It's basically a slush fund for commissioners.
That same hidden change took $954,000 from the Miami Police Department. Meanwhile, the City Manager's office got a 32% increase and the Mayor's office went up 12.7%. And Miami's sitting on about $1.8 billion in project needs with no money to cover them.
So the city came up with a plan to pay for it. And it's sitting on Miami's ballot this November. 👇🏼
Your K-Cup Has Been Sitting in a Warehouse for Months
That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.
Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.
Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.
New customers get 15% off their first order — applied automatically, no code needed.
👉🏼 Miami's asking voters to approve $450 million in new debt on the same ballot as the property tax cut. Once you add interest and fees, the real price tag is about $795 million. And the city's own documents admit the new fire stations will need more staff that was never worked into the budget, so even that isn't the whole bill. The city says Amendment 3 would cost it $53.9 million a year. But in just one year, Miami's collecting about $43 million more in property taxes just because home values went up. They don't have a money problem. They have a spending problem.
Amendment 3 raises your homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, and it limits what cities and counties can spend property tax money on. Public safety, schools, roads and infrastructure. Not festival money for commissioners to hand out to their pals. If it fails, property taxes collected by Florida local governments are on pace to jump 40% by 2031.

When a Florida city hides its budget until after the vote, that tells you everything about who they think the money belongs to. And it's gotta change. This November, vote yes on Amendment 3. Stop the waste and put your money back where it belongs, in your pocket.
