Our First Hurricane in Florida
We made it!
The day after the hurricane it was pretty amazing. The sun was shining the wind was calm and light again, and the birds were singing. It was like nothing had happened and all was right with the world again. I was back in paradise.
My wife Monika and I just rode out our first real hurricane in our new home in St Petersburg Florida. And while Hurricane Helene was about 100 miles off shore, it was a category 4 (with 5 being the strongest/biggest) so the impact on the coast was tremendous.
The biggest issues in St Petersburg and the surrounding coastlines was the flooding. Some areas got around 10 feet of water pushed onto their homes and streets. It was crazy and my heart and prayers go out for them.
But for my wife and I, we don’t live on the coast. We live inland. And if you’ve been watching my YouTube videos I’ve been screaming to anyone that will listen, about the neighborhood we live in, in St Pete. This neighborhood is about to become extremely valuable because its one of the highest points in the city and its a no flood zone and a no evacuation zone. That means we don’t get any flood waters and we are not required to leave our homes during a storm.
So while all that chaos was unfortunalty going on around the coastline. All Monika and I had to deal with was high winds, just like you’ve experienced where you live, and a lot of downed branches. NO FLOODING! 😃🙌🏼 Our neighbors tree actually fell over and landed on his fence that separates our properties. The tree was removed the next day, and they’re out there as I’m typing this newsletter fixing the fence. So it’s really back to normal for us. Unfortunately thats not the case for so many people that live on the coast. My friends included. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
I have a new YouTube video coming out about the important things you need to know if you decide to buy a home in Florida. It’s good for any state really, and it will make you 98% smarter than most real estate agents. I talk about the 10 steps we use to evaluate a house and make sure we don’t buy something that will ruin our lives in the future. These 10 steps are why we made sure we wouldn’t have to deal with flooding and major hurricane damage when storms happen.
This video is in production now and wont be out for a week or so. I’ll share the link with you when I get it. I just wanted to let you know Monika and I are okay, and thanks to so many of you for reaching out and checking in on us. I really appreciate you all, and if you ever have any questions about Florida life, or real estate in general, don’t be afraid to shoot me an email back. I’m here to help.
Talk soon,
