This is DeSantis Biggest Fight of his Life

And your property taxes are on the line

In partnership with

Ron DeSantis isn't fighting a Democrat, Washington or the media. He's fighting a Republican from Miami who's doing everything in his power to make sure you keep writing that property tax check every single year for the rest of your life.

Here's what's happening. DeSantis made a promise that he’s gonna put full elimination of property taxes on your homesteaded home on the November 2026 ballot and let Florida voters decide. Yes or no. That's it. No tricks. No fine print.

Here’s why thats such a huge deal. In 2019, Florida homeowners paid $30 billion in property taxes. Today it's $60 billion. By 2031 it's projected to hit $84 billion. That number doesn't go down on its own. Politicians spend every dollar they can get their hands on and then they look for more.

DeSantis wanted to know where all that money was going. So he created the Florida Agency for Fiscal Oversight, or FAFO, and sent them into local city and county budgets to find the waste. They've already found over $2 billion. DEI programs. Grants to nonprofits nobody voted for. Junk nobody asked for. All of it paid for with your property taxes.

And here's the part that surprises most people. DeSantis isn't trying to blow up the entire budget. He's only talking about homestead homes. The one you actually live in full time. Apartment buildings, Walmart, Airbnb's, snowbirds' second homes. They all still pay. When you do the real math, you're replacing about 9% of total local government revenue. That's it. And DeSantis has a $15 billion budget surplus ready to help local governments make the transition.

The math works. The money is there. So why hasn't it happened yet?

Because Daniel Perez, the Speaker of the Florida House, went behind DeSantis's back and flooded the House with seven different property tax proposals during the regal session. None of which actually eliminated property taxes. Every single one of them kept school taxes in place, which can be 60% of your bill. And when you flood the ballot with multiple options, none of them hit the 60% supermajority they need to pass. They all fail. Then Perez gets to blame you for not voting for it.

The Senate saw right through it and killed every single one of those proposals. But here's where it gets good. DeSantis already has his next move locked and loaded. And it's brilliant.

So now the regular legislative session is over and DeSantis is calling a special session, just on property taxes. No distractions. No other issues on the table. And it has to pass both chambers by a 3/5 majority to get on the ballot in November 2026. Republicans already hold a supermajority in both chambers. They don't need a single Democrat vote. If this fails it's because Republicans killed it. There's nobody else to blame.

No state in American history has ever eliminated property taxes on homestead homes. Not one. Florida would be the first. And when Florida homeowners start keeping that money, every homeowner in Texas, Georgia, and Ohio is gonna ask the same question. Why can't we do that? That's exactly why politicians everywhere are terrified of this.

In the video, I break down what DeSantis’ proposal has to get right so cities and counties don’t invent new fees to replace property taxes. And how to stop out of staters from moving here to take advantage of no property taxes, and driving up home prices in the process. That part matters just as much as the vote itself.
