We sold it all and moved to Florida

Here's how we did it

I felt stuck where I was living, so we sold everything and moved to Florida. It wasn't an easy decision, but it was one I had to make. If you're feeling stuck too, this might resonate with you. I knew I needed to completely close a chapter in my life and start fresh somewhere else.

Leaving behind everything I knew in Trenton, Michigan was daunting, but the desire to go outweighed the fear of change. After weighing options like California and Texas, we settled on St. Petersburg, Florida for its proximity to family and real estate back in Michigan. And let me tell you, it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.

The city itself is beautiful, but before making the final move, my wife and I visited twice—once during the hot summer to see if the heat was manageable and again in winter. St. Pete passed both tests! We loved the walkability, vibrant downtown, and easy access to everything.

To make the move happen, we sold nearly everything we owned, including my beloved lawn equipment and tools. We kept things simple by hiring professional movers, and in total, we spent $4,550 on the move, including U-Haul costs and movers. Selling most of our items back in Michigan helped offset the expenses, and once we arrived, we bought just what we needed for our new life in St. Pete.

The best part of the move? I knew I was home the moment I dropped off the U-Haul just two blocks from our new apartment and walked a single block to dinner. That level of convenience and walkability sealed the deal.

I want to remind you that you don’t have to stay stuck where you are. Sometimes, all it takes is the desire for change and a plan to make it happen.
