There's a TV ad campaign running all across Florida telling you to vote no on Amendment 3, and it's coming from the Florida Sheriffs Association. Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook says she might have to lay off 300 people. Since 2019, her pay went from $145,739 to $242,461. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, the association's president, got a $101,856 raise. Orange County Sheriff John Mina got $107,002 more. A state law hands them a raise every single year. You don't vote on it. It just happens.
Their budgets exploded too. Cook's went from $62.8 million to $120.9 million, up 92%. Woods's more than doubled to $226.9 million. When Marion County commissioners asked why his budget kept climbing without more deputies on the road, Woods told them, according to the Ocala Gazette, "If you don't agree with how I run my department, I don't give a rat's ass."
I back the blue 100%. I want to make sure they have all the tools necessary for them to do their job. But you can support your sheriff and still ask why their budget doubled.
Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony asked for $103.5 million more this year. His new training center was pitched at $34 million and ended up costing $73.7 million, including a $461,675 sauna and cold plunge tub and an $11,000 sign with his name on it. When Broward Mayor Mark Bogen asked for a signed promise on how the money would be spent, Tony stopped negotiating altogether. On October 6th, the county commission shelved his request, unanimously.
But unfortunately, Florida mayors are right there with the Sheriffs. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava started a political committee to fight Amendment 3, while her county's budget jumped 60% to $14.26 billion. Tampa Mayor Jane Castor nearly doubled her city's budget to $2.04 billion. Statewide, local property tax collections went from $30 billion in 2019 to $60 billion today. If Amendment 3 fails, DeSantis says it's on pace to hit $84 billion by 2031. That's about $2,583 more a year per household. You're gonna need a second job just to keep up.
But there's one thing on your ballot that can stop all of it. And that's exactly why they're fighting it so hard. 👇🏼
Big companies hedge their risks. Now your business can too.
For US farm, ranch and small business owners.
Airlines hedge fuel. Food companies hedge crops. For decades, protecting a business from outcomes it can't control took a broker, a trading desk and an order size most owners never had.
Kalshi opens hedging up to small businesses. Pick the outcome that would hurt you, like a fuel spike, a heat wave, a new tariff or a rate hike, and take a position on it, starting at a few dollars. If it happens, the payout offsets the hit. If it doesn't, the contract expires and the good month was the point.
A California goat herder and a Maryland tea company already do it, and CNBC, Reuters and The New York Times have covered businesses hedging on Kalshi.
Kalshi is a federally regulated exchange.
👉🏼 Back in 1980, Florida's homestead exemption covered 56% of a typical home's value. Today it's still $50,000, and on a median $415,000 home it covers just 12%. Amendment 3 raises it to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. For about 60% of Florida homestead homeowners, it wipes out the non-school portion of their property taxes completely. Not a discount. Gone. No more paying for a sheriff's sauna and cold plunge on your dime.
Even Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz broke ranks, saying tax relief and public safety aren't competing priorities, and DeSantis backed her up. Amendment 3 needs 60% of the vote on November 3rd. If it fails, you're not getting another shot.

Even though I’m Pro Police, it doesn't mean handing anybody a blank check. So when somebody tells you a property tax cut means fewer deputies on the street, don't ask how we're gonna pay for police. Ask where all the money's been going. They have a spending problem, not an income problem. Vote yes on Amendment 3 and put your money back where it belongs, in your pocket.
